Restricted Call for Proposals for CSO Civic and Voter Education interventions in RIFT VALLEY, WESTERN and CENTRAL Provinces of Kenya |

1. Amkeni Wakenya is a UNDP-led Facility whose mission is to provide support to civil society to facilitate citizens’ engagement in democratic governance and reforms. It is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Embassy of Sweden, the Royal Norwegian Embassy (Norway), the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Amkeni Wakenya supports civil society organisations through Grant Making, Capacity Building and Knowledge Management. To date, Amkeni Wakenya has published four (4) Calls for Proposals and supported more than 220 CSOs through these Calls and the Quick Response Fund. |

2. Amkeni Wakenya is inviting proposals from CSOs working in RIFT VALLEY, WESTERN and CENTRAL PROVINCES OF KENYA to submit proposals under the theme: “Towards Free, Fair and Peaceful General Elections in 2012”. Only organisations based in or having a visible presence in these regions are eligible to apply. |

3. The proposal should focus on one or a combination of the following components, with emphasis on facilitating active and effective citizen participation:
|
|
a) Voter Education on the new electoral laws, importance of registering as a voter, elective positions under the Constitution, voting procedures, and increasing voter interest in the 2012 General Elections;
|
|
b) Civic Education on the Constitution aimed at increasing citizens’ awareness of the provisions of the Constitution including provisions on elections and leadership and integrity;
|
|
c) Promoting peaceful co-existence, deepening reconciliation and preventing conflicts among different communities in the periods before, during and after the 2012 General Elections.
|
|
4. Projects supported under this call will run for a period of 6 months from March 2012- August 2012. |

5. Successful organisations will be eligible to receive grant allocations of not more than USD 15,000 which will be paid out in Kenya Shillings. |
|
6. All proposals including a Work Plan, Logical Framework and Budget must be submitted in the format given in the attached Application Form. |

7. All applications must be received at the Programme Management Unit not later than 3.00 p.m. on Thursday 12th January 2012.
Amkeni Wakenya’s programme development and implementation of activities is informed and overseen by a dynamic and inclusive governance structure.
